Sosharu

Sosharu, a twist on the word ‘social’, is a Japanese bar and restaurant in Clerkenwell.
Situated within the Turnmill Building on Clerkenwell Road, Sosharu is a 75 cover izakaya style restaurant serving casual yet refined Japanese cuisine using British, seasonal ingredients.
The interiors have been designed by Shanghai based studio Neri & Hu. The ground floor is framed by an abstract timber structure, inspired by traditional minka houses, evoking the intimate experience of sitting in a Japanese home
Jason Atherton collaborated on Sosharu with Executive Head Chef Alex Craciun who has worked within The Social Company for 4 years, previously sous chef at Pollen Street Social. In preparation for the launch, Craciun relocated to Japan on a research trip, spending the year studying at the Kyoto Culinary School and working at the restaurants Kikunoi under Chef Yoshihiro Murata in Kyoto and RyuGin under Seiji Yamamoto in Tokyo. This now enables him to bring his unique culinary experience and understanding of Japanese cuisine to Sosharu. The menu comprises of small dishes, with sections dedicated to different specialities including temaki, hibachi grill, yaki grill, tempura, sashimi, and more
Downstairs, 7 Tales cocktail bar is reminiscent of the night-time atmosphere of Tokyo. Cocktails are inspired by Japanese culture, notably the 7 Samurai, alongside a curated range of Japanese whiskies. 7 Tales captures the buzz and debauchery of Tokyo after dark: neon lights, hip-hop beats and vending machines. Headed up by bar manager Jay Doy, drinks are innovative in flavour and deceptively simple on the eye.The Japanese bar snacks – tempura, yakitori, tonkatsu – are especially delicious with a glass of sake or a can of Kirin Ichiban.
