Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is a celebration of historic British gastronomy, located in a contemporary setting within the Mandarin Oriental Hotel in the heart of Knightsbridge. Founded by chefs Heston Blumenthal and Ashley Palmer-Watts in 2011, Dinner received its first Michelin star the year after it opened, and its second the following year.

Dinner is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner, and guests can choose from the A La Carte menu throughout, with the additional option of a set lunch menu from Monday to Friday. There is also a dramatic Private Dining Room, which can accommodate up to twelve guests, and an exclusive Chef’s Table which seats four to six people and provides the ultimate behind the scenes dining experience, with a front-row view into the spectacular glass-walled kitchen.

Concept:

The research for Dinner began with Heston Blumenthal’s fascination for historic British gastronomy many years before the restaurant itself was conceived. Delving into the archives of the kitchens at King Henry VIII’s Hampton Court Palace and The British Library, Heston and Ashley Palmer-Watts explored everything from the royal chefs of King Richard II, to the theatre of Tudor dining experiences, the savoury ice creams of the late 1800’s and the dishes in Lewis Carroll’s Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. Dedicated to modern day discovery and the evolution of dining, the two chefs then created a menu that takes those discoveries and fascinations of history into a new and evolving 21st century dining experience.

Ashley Palmer-Watts:

Dinner’s Chef Director Ashley Palmer-Watts worked closely with Heston to meticulously research and create a finely crafted menu, which draws on recipes from as far back as the fourteenth century. Sharing Heston’s passion for research and creativity, Ashley Palmer-Watts has worked alongside Heston for just under 20 years. Part of The Fat Duck Group since 1999, including 7 years as Head Chef at The Fat Duck, Ashley is now Chef Director at Dinner, overseeing operations both here in London and Dinner by Heston in Melbourne, which opened in 2015.
